TL;DR As of Aug 31, 2026, Harness has acquired DeepSource. The entire DeepSource team, along with Jai and me, is joining Harness to bring our AI code review engine to their platform. This is our final investor update.

Jai and I started DeepSource in 2019, when the world was quite different. Before we landed on the idea of building a new code quality engine, we were debating a few different ideas in developer tools. I remember telling Jai we should use the Jeff Bezos filter: "What's not going to change in the next ten years?" Humans would still be writing code in ten years, we reasoned, so building tools for code quality made sense. Welp.
We're proud of what we built at DeepSource. In the last seven years, we built a code quality platform from the ground up; launched Autofix, the industry's first automated code remediation engine; launched automated code formatting, repositioned as the code health platform, launched DeepSource SCA, rewrote Autofix to use AI agents, and most recently launched AI Review, our hybrid analysis engine. During this time, we've had 100k+ unique developers on our cloud platform, 7,500+ open-source and paid teams, served customers like Twilio, Visa, Ancestry, Babbel, New York City, Sainsbury's, Viasat, WEX, Aritzia, Hilti, and several others. We've employed 50+ people over the company's lifetime.
For two twenty-something nobodies coming from India without any network or pedigree backing us, this is a big deal. Jai and I did the best work of our lives and built products we believe in which ended up being used by some of the biggest companies in the world. We also immigrated to the US with our families, changing our lives completely. None of this would have been possible without your support. From the bottom of our hearts, we're thankful to you and everyone else on our cap table for believing in us, especially when we faltered (which was often).
This acquisition wasn't the outcome we had hoped for. Over the last two years, we struggled as a company. When agentic coding took off and models became better at writing and reviewing code, our roots in AST-based code analysis held us back. We pivoted to adapt to AI agents for code analysis and remediation, but in retrospect, we were late. In the last 8 months, our backs were against the wall as some of our largest customers churned. Rallying the team together to build AI Code Review was challenging, and we're proud of what we shipped (and did well on an open benchmark). While the initial adoption of AI Code Review was great and we saw a decent uptick in new revenue, it was too little too late for us. Raising follow-on capital with our growth rate was out of the question.
The M&A process was brutal. We spoke to 10+ companies, including AI labs who were interested in us because of all the work we've done in code security and code review. The entire engineering team being in India worked against us as nearly every company we spoke with wanted the team physically in SF, or at least in the US. The few that got past this wanted an acqui-hire without giving anything to the cap table, which was simply unacceptable to us. Harness was the only company to reach the finish line. With them, we're able to give something back to our investors (equity in a high-growth scale-up), secure jobs for the entire team, and preserve a shot at the DeepSource product and brand living on.
We deeply appreciate you investing in DeepSource, and more importantly, investing in us as founders. We're sorry we lost you money.
Until the next rodeo.
Best,
Jai and Sanket.
